A colourful mural celebrating local wildlife has been created at the Bath Road toilet block.
The nature-inspired artwork has been painted on the town’s legal graffiti wall at the skatepark end of King George V Playing Field, beside the Waitrose car park.
The mural features a kingfisher, reflecting the area’s riverside setting, and was created using spray paint techniques.
The mural was created as part of this year’s Sham Jam festival, with the artwork painted live by street artist Mr Sce on Sunday 27th September. Visitors were able to watch the mural take shape throughout the day.
The project also gave young people the opportunity to explore street art techniques through a workshop held the previous weekend.
Councillor Jennie Westbrook said, “The new mural is such a brilliant addition to our park and a fantastic example of how creativity can transform an ordinary space. A huge thank you to Elliot for first bringing the idea to the council, and to Mr Sce for his incredible design. Made possible through an Area Board grant, the project has not only brought colour and life to the park, but also given young people the chance to learn new skills and explore their creativity through street art.
“Street art can bring a town to life, and I hope this is just the beginning, with more murals, installations, legal walls and creative opportunities giving people of all ages the chance to make their mark on Melksham.”
Melksham Mayor, Councillor Saffi Rabey, added, “I’m really passionate about street art and the positive impact it can have on communities. This mural has transformed an ordinary wall into something people can enjoy and take pride in, while also giving young people the chance to learn new skills and express their creativity.”
