Planning permission has been granted for a new micro-brewery to open in Melksham.
The Kennet & Avon Brewery Ltd moved into their premises last July behind Victoria Motors on Old Broughton Road and have been distributing from there whilst awaiting a decision on planning.
Managing director Malcolm Shipp said, “We’re delighted to finally be in a position to brew under our own roof having started the company three years ago. Our beers have been brewed off site at Wessex Brewery from the beginning but we long ago hit capacity with that arrangement.
“We were really busy in the run up to Christmas with local people collecting draught and bottled beer for their festivities, we can now be confident of meeting demand once we have our brewplant installed.”
In August last year they launched www.glutenfreebeerstore.co.uk online, boasting the largest range of gluten free beers in the world. Over the next four months they shipped over 4000 bottles of beer around the UK to people with Coeliac disease and gluten intolerance. Kennet & Avon bottled beers are all certified gluten free!
Future plans include a craft beer shop at the front of the building and they will also be offering brewery tours and experience days further down the line. There will also be an opportunity to invest in the company when they pitch for crowd funding in February.
Locals can already order beer through their website – www.kennetandavonbrewery.co.uk – and have free delivery to SN12 area if over £20.
