A new community cafe has been opened at The Foresters Arms on Sandridge Road.
It offers a pot of tea from a steaming teapot, china cups, fresh flowers on the table, home-made cakes, snacks and lunches, freshly cooked breakfasts and a Fish & Chip Friday with traditional fish and chips, mushy peas and bread and butter.
“The cafe was started as there was nothing in the area for people to pop in for a cup of tea/coffee, meet up and just relax,” said Michelle Bryant-Jefferies, general manager at the Foresters Arms.
“Our new restaurant manager, Lisa, joined our team earlier this year and quickly got to work decorating the restaurant to create a lovely cosy cafe with a relaxing atmosphere.
“It’s a real ‘traditional’ style cafe with teapots and china teacups and saucers to serve delicious hot tea and those little touches like fresh flowers on each table and lovely napkins.
“And it’s already become a community hub after being opened by former mayor Adrienne Westbrook who lives close by.
“We have fresh delicious home-made cakes and scones that are locally made and serve a variety of barista coffees, breakfast teas and a variety of flavoured teas as well as decaffeinated.
“Lisa has designed a menu to suit all with a variety of cold and hot food options, including light bites (sandwiches), homemade soup and weekly specials from omelettes to smoked salmon with a Bucks Fizz! All cooked and prepared fresh in our kitchen!
“We also have our Fish Friday, to come and enjoy a piece of freshly battered cod, chips, mushy peas and bread and butter for just £6.50.
“And there are kids’ hot and cold options with drinks and desserts included.
“We have now also started freshly cooked breakfasts which can be served at any time during the days we open.
“The cafe is currently open Tuesday and Wednesday 10am-2pm and Thursday and Friday 9am- 2pm.
“Please do pop by anytime we are open and come say hello to our friendly team.”
