PLANS are growing to transform the green space on Semington Road next to the petrol station into a new community garden
Melksham Town Council has agreed to apply for a ‘garden licence’ from Wiltshire Council to enable volunteers from Melksham Bloomers and the Melksham Business Growth Group to carry out planting and develop the area.
Plans for the green space include a small pond, a new gravel pathway, wildflower planting, shrub planting, a wooden gazebo, and an evergreen hedge around the perimeter neighbouring the road and the side next to the petrol station.
It is hoped that the new community garden will benefit local residents and provide a new welcome point to the town for visitors.
“I think that this is a fantastic idea,” said deputy mayor, cllr Colin Goodhind at a town council meeting this month. “Anything that makes the entrances to the town look nicer is a great thing. As far as I can see, the support that we have got to give them is relatively small, for quite a large gain.”
