A new all-weather sports pitch has opened at Forest and Sandridge Primary School and has been named in honour of a beloved and long-serving teacher who is retiring after three decades of service at the school.
‘The Liz Bell Stadium’ is an artificial pitch that will be open all year benefitting pupils, staff and the wider community, marking a significant milestone in the school’s ongoing expansion and growth plan.
The pitch will also be made available to local sports clubs and community groups outside of school hours.

It has been named in honour of teacher Liz Bell, who is retiring this summer after 33 years of service at the school.
“We are extremely excited to have a facility that we can use throughout the year, regardless of the weather,” said headteacher Scott James. “It will enhance our PE provision, providing a fantastic space for break times and allow us to host sporting events, including those involving other primary schools in Melksham.
“Over her career, Liz has taught more than 1,000 children and positively impacted thousands more. Her passion for physical education and commitment to providing extracurricular and competitive opportunities have left lasting memories.

“Liz has made an outstanding contribution to Forest and Sandridge, over the last three decades. We now have parents, staff and members of the local community who were once taught by her. Naming the pitch in her honour is a fitting way to celebrate her legacy.”
Chief Executive Officer at The White Horse Federation, Dan Nicholls, said, “This is a fantastic development that will bring together our school and local communities. It provides opportunities for those who might not otherwise have access to such facilities and highlights the dedication of our staff and trust partners, who continue to inspire lives.”

Earlier this month, the school community gathered for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the stadium, followed by a showcase of student sports activities.
The pitch was made possible, thanks to funding from Wiltshire County Council, available as part of local infrastructure investment linked to nearby construction of new housing developments.
