MELKSHAM’S Community Larder has extended its service to include a new Community Wardrobe, offering donations of clothes for people if they are struggling.
The Community Wardrobe opened on Friday 13th January and is based above the Community Larder, which distributes surplus food to the community to minimise food waste, at the Round House on Church Street.
The stock of clothing in the Community Wardrobe will be rotated to match the seasons.
Organiser Adrienne Westbrook said, “The wardrobe is going well so far! The idea for this started at the end of last year when we had the really cold spell of weather. Miriam from the town council asked if we wanted some coats, we said yes and then couldn’t believe how they flew off the rail! We have got some really good stuff, people have been so grateful!”
As well as clothing, the service is now offering toiletries; the team is asking for people to donate whatever they can.
Adrienne said, “People are so desperate, that’s the bottom line of it. We need donations for toiletries and if people want to donate clothing for the wardrobe, they can contact me. At the moment we have a lot of clothing stock and would like to donate this before more comes in, because we do not have the space to store it all.”
The Community Wardrobe and Larder is open to anyone who would benefit on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 2pm, at the Round House.
