ANDREW Griffin has been elected to Melksham Town Council following a by-election held on Thursday 18th January.
The by-election for the Melksham South Ward took place following the resignation of Colin Goodhind in November. Liberal Democrat candidate Andrew Griffin, received 440 votes (61%) with the Local Conservatives candidate Gillian Elson receiving 281 votes
Cllr Andrew Griffin said, “Thank you to all the residents of Melksham South Ward who voted in person or by post in last Thursday’s election, especially those who supported me. I had already started reviewing the town council’s processes and will commence my formal responsibilities at the full council meeting on Monday 22nd January.
“I look forward to working constructively with my new colleagues, regardless of their political persuasion, to bring improvements for the residents and businesses of Melksham. Unfortunately, the town council does not control everything that affects us; where we do, we must do better and where we don’t, we must use what power and influence we have for the good of our town.”
This is the second by-election that Andrew Griffin has taken part in, after he stood in the Melksham East Ward election last year, as an independent candidate.
