A NEW group established to bring together the elderly for tea and companionship has been set up in Melksham.
‘Contact the Elderly’ is an organisation that has groups throughout the country but has just announced a Melksham group is to start – becoming only the fourth group in Wiltshire.
National volunteer support officer for the group, Suzan Hyland said, “We take the elderly out for tea once a month for 12 months of the year.
“The group will help any local elderly people who are feeling isolated. It’s open to anyone over 75 and the regular monthly outing makes a huge difference to the life of an isolated person and gives them something to look forward to.”
The Melksham group has vacancies for elderly members and volunteer drivers to drive one Sunday afternoon a month. They are also looking for volunteer hosts to hold a tea party in their home, once or twice a year for six to eight elderly.
If you think you can assist please contact Suzan on 0207 420 5811 or suzan.hyland@contact-the-elderly.org.uk. Alternatively visit ‘Contact for the Elderly’ website on www.contact-the-elderly.org.uk
