ATWORTH has a new-look refurbished youth centre that is open and back in action.
The new operators of the centre, 4Youth (South West), and the Atworth Youth Club charity, have together invested over £25,000 in significant improvements to the facility including new toilets, a new kitchen and massive facelift to the premises.
The new-look Youth Centre in Atworth will see youth activities taking place four evenings a week with the popular No Limits SEND youth club relocating from its current base in Melksham on Mondays and open access youth work in the centre every Tuesday and Thursday.
Wednesdays will see the team head out of the youth centre and undertake street-based youth work out and about in the community working with young people across the community.
The centre was officially opened at the beginning of the month by local resident Imogen, who was the first local young resident to sign up to attend one of the new youth clubs being run from the centre.
Also at the official opening ceremony was chair of the Atworth Parish Council, cllr David Winnie and local Wiltshire Councillor Trevor Carbin, along with centre coordinator Ellie Wright, chair of trustees Jon Hubbard and 4Youth peer leaders Emma and Lewis for the ribbon cutting.
The new centre coordinator Ellie Wright said, “It was really exciting today to welcome young people, and some not so young people, back into the centre and for them to see all of the hard work that has been completed to develop the new-look youth centre.”
Chair of 4Youth (South West), Jon Hubbard, added, “Today is the beginning of the next chapter of Atworth Youth Club. But today we are also celebrating the rich history that this youth centre has and the amazing people who have made the centre such a success for so many years. I would particularly like to play tribute to the former youth leaders and committee members who have given up their time to ensure that youth work has continued in the village.
“We are delighted that the trustees of Atworth Youth Club have chosen to trust 4Youth (South West) to continue their tradition of outstanding youth work here and we look forward to welcoming local young people back into the premises.”
