MELKSHAM’S new mayor and deputy mayor, cllr Jon Hubbard and cllr Colin Goodhind, have pledged to give the town council a “fresh start” and continue work to improve the town.
Cllr Hubbard – who was re-elected to council as part of the Together for Melksham team earlier this month – was unanimously voted into the role of mayor at last week’s annual Melksham Town Council meeting.
It is the second time he has been mayor – he was previously in the role in 2019/20.
The new deputy mayor, cllr Goodhind – another Together for Melksham team member – was also unanimously voted in.
“I’m delighted to take on the role again this year,” said cllr Hubbard speaking to Melksham News after his election. “I think that this is an exciting opportunity for the council to continue its work in the town – we can take forward some of the plans that we had to improve all parts of the town – improve play areas across the town, take on community safety issues that have been raised with us.
“And it’s an opportunity to take the town council forward and give it the fresh start that we [Together for Melksham] promised to do.”
Deputy mayor, cllr Goodhind, told Melksham News, “The way cllr Hubbard chaired the first meeting of our new town council yesterday evening (18th May) should make everyone who took part and listened in feel very confident we’re in an era of fairness, openness and acknowledgement of good work that’s gone before us.
“I’m certain this will be reflected in the way cllr Hubbard represents the town as mayor and I look forward to acting in a similar vein whenever I’m called upon to support or stand in for him as his deputy.
“A great combination of new blood, along with experience will be good for this wonderful town and I’m proud to be part of this fresh start.”
