A new form of non-contact rugby has arrived in Melksham, with weekly sessions now underway at the town’s rugby club.
T1 Rugby is a simplified, accessible version of the sport developed by the RFU and World Rugby. It includes key parts of the game such as lineouts, scrums, kicking and breakdowns—but without the physical contact.
“T1 rugby is a new version of touch rugby, designed as a ‘plug and play’ format so that no matter your experience, you can turn up and get playing,” said Jon Gerrish, Melksham RFC’s youth chairman.
“It is a non-contact game, but it introduces elements of the full game, like non-contact scrums and lineouts, which help create shape and space for running rugby. Imagine tag, but with structure and lots of options to explore the attack and score tries.
“No experience is necessary – whether you have played before or are completely new to the sport, you will find fun, challenge and make new friends in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment at Melksham Rugby Club, just bring yourself, some water and trainers and you are all set.”
Sessions are being held at Melksham Rugby Club throughout the summer on Friday evening from 6pm to 7.30pm for children aged 12 to 16, with no prior playing experience or kit required.
