DOG owners have suggested that the site of the former King George V play area could become a new ‘off-lead’ area for dogs.
The site, next to Clackers Brook, could replace the park’s current dog run, located next to the skate park, which was last year described by dog owners as “too small” and “not fit for purpose”.
The idea was championed by cllr Terri Welch at a town council meeting last week, where she explained she had been approached by several people about the idea.
“There is obviously a need for it,” said cllr Welch.
As the site of the former play area, which has been relocated next to the splashpad, already has fencing that is in good condition, the idea was described as one that would come at “no cost” to the town council.
The idea will be discussed at the town council’s next King George V committee meeting in March.
Currently there are plans to remove the fencing around the site of the former play area and transform it into a small “wild” area for plants and wildlife.
