LIBERAL Democrat candidate, Clive Jeffries, has been elected to Melksham Town Council after last week’s by-election for the Melksham Central ward vacancy.
The vacancy was created following the resignation of Michael Swanton after he moved from Melksham to Trowbridge.
New town councillor, Clive Jeffries, told Melksham News, “I am glad to be elected and to join the Liberal Democrats’ team on the town council – they have been doing a good job in the town, and I am looking forward to being a part of that.
“I would like to say thank you to everyone who voted for me and to the other candidates – it was a very friendly and pleasant campaign.
“I have several campaigns on the go at the moment that I hope to complete during my time as councillor. I would like to see grass-cutting continue to improve around the town; I currently have a petition to reduce maintenance costs for residents living on the East of Melksham estate; and I am also interested in tackling speeding – Blackmore Road appears to be a problem.”
From a possible 4,227, 673 electorates voted in the election, a 15.92% turnout. 12 ballot papers were rejected. The final results were: Martha de Bruxelles (Labour Party) 71; Claire Forgacs (The Conservative Party candidate) 284; Clive Jeffries (Liberal Democrats) 306 – elected.
