New volunteering opportunities at Age Friendly Melksham

AGE Friendly Melksham is looking for new volunteers to help support its work in the community supporting people living with isolation and loneliness. 

The organisation is hosting a drop-in information session at ‘that meeting space’ in the Market Place on Monday 4th October, 1pm to 3pm. 

Age Friendly co-ordinator, Phillipa Huxtable said, “We are excited to be able to offer a range of new volunteering roles for people who would like to get more involved in their community.   

“We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic people to join the team and help us bring joy and reassurance to those in later life, living with isolation and loneliness”. 

About the different roles for volunteers, Phillipa explained, “Our volunteer companions visit people at home, providing information, encouragement and support to go to a local group or activity.   

“We have ‘Face2Face’ volunteers who take our iPad out and about to enable communication with family and friends, and community support volunteers, who take calls and arrange volunteer tasks to be done.  

“We also have other roles that don’t involve user contact but are just as important and rewarding, such as helping with the Christmas Meals project, or being an Age Friendly ambassador.  

“We offer full training and support and aim to make sure you benefit from your volunteering just as much as the people you help do.”
