LOCAL youth charity, 4 Youth (SW), is preparing to officially launch its new youth mentoring scheme.

The new scheme will link mentors – volunteers from the local and wider community trained by the charity – with young people who are in need of guidance about work and education prospects.
The charity, based at the Canberra Centre, Spa Road, had announced its plans for a youth mentoring scheme in the spring this year.
“Obviously, the Covid 19 pandemic has made planning and delivering this service very challenging,” said Keith Clover, the project lead. “We were just coming out of lockdown and engaging face to face with businesses and schools was not easy.”
Despite the challenges brought about by Covid the scheme is now on the brink of starting and mentors have been identified and fully trained, including relevant safeguarding procedures.
Policies and documentation have been produced and mentor matches are just about to be made.
Keith said, “The aim of the scheme is to match young people with mentors who have experience in the workplace and who can support students who are not sure which route to take, or decide about further education options.
“We are working closely with Melksham Oak Community School to support the great work that they do with regard to supporting their students.”
Local companies are supporting the scheme and mentors have volunteered from a number of organisations including Sound Marketing, SJS Consulting, Babcock International and Knorr Bremse.
As the mentoring scheme grows more mentors will be needed, so, if you think that this is something that would be of interest, and would like more details please contact Keith Clover by email: Keith.Clover@4youth.org.uk
