OWNERS of a Melksham hair salon are determined to continue to raise money for Cancer Research despite having over £300 of charity money stolen by thieves.
Lyndsey Yarwood opened the Elleness Salon on Roundponds one morning recently to find the salon had been broken into, the till had been emptied and the Cancer Research collection bucket emptied.
The charity bucket was clearly labelled as being for a charity and contained over £300 of sponsorship for a skydive Lyndsey was due to take part in just a few days later. She said, “It’s just disgusting, stealing from a charity box. Our takings are covered by the insurance, but the thieves must have known they were taking from the charity. It’s so wrong.
“It was gutting when we walked through the door to see the bucket empty in the middle of the salon. But we will not let the thieves win and I am still going to raise the money for the charity and will still do the skydive later in the year once enough sponsorship has been raised again.”
Co-owner Sophie Hellyer said, “It’s horrible to think somebody could steal from a charity but it will not stop us raising money. We are extremely grateful to our customers who were so understanding when we had to re-schedule appointments on the morning of the break-in.”
As well as the £300 stolen from the charity bucket, £700 was also taken from the till, along with some products. The police have been informed and fingerprints have been taken from a ladder that was found discarded nearby.
To make a donation to help raise money for Cancer Research and reach the target needed for Lyndsey to complete her skydive then visit the salon where the collection bucket is now securely kept.
