PREPARATIONS are in full swing for Melksham Community Free Dining’s Christmas Day lunch extravaganza.
And support from the local community for the new initiative, held at Bowerhill Village Hall, has been so overwhelming, the team has announced that they will also be serving a free lunch on New Year’s Day.
Trustees of Melksham Community Free Dining, Deedee Macleod and Louisa Lewis say, “The Bowerhill Village Hall will be decked with decorations galore, together with Santa on his sleigh!
“The community has truly come together to make sure the hall brims over with Christmas good cheer. Decorations, gifts and their valuable time have all been offered by the residents and companies of both Melksham and Melksham Without Parish.
“Volunteers are cooking the meal, with fish and vegetables being donated by our wonderful Melksham Tuesday market traders. Others have baked cakes, donated cheese and party crackers. All this help has ensured that this is going to make for an amazing Christmas Day.
“We are overwhelmed by people’s kindness and generosity. Hopefully people will read this and know they don’t have to be alone at Christmas. We are here ready to wish them a very Merry Christmas.
“We have had so much help we are now able to open New Year’s Day, Saturday 1st January, for lunch as well as Christmas Day. Both days are open from 12.30pm to 4pm.”
