MELKSHAM Town Council is inviting the community to get involved with plans for a tree walk sensory garden in King George V playing field.
The sensory garden – which will be located on the walk that runs parallel to Lowbourne – is one of many plans unveiled by the council last month for ‘phase one’ of the revamp of the much-loved park.
‘Phase one’ – which the council is hoping will be completed by the summer – also includes outdoor gym equipment, a new path and extra seating, along with the splashpad.
Community engagement officer for the town council, Debbie Bentley says, “The town council are working with a small group of people looking at the design for the sensory garden. This includes representatives from Wiltshire Sight, Centre for Independent Living, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Rivermead School, South West in Bloom and the town council’s grounds team. The project is still in early stages, so there is no design at this point, but we hope to have one shortly.
“We are now keen to get more people from the community involved. We are considering the option for groups or schools to have a designated space within the sensory garden that they would be responsible for maintaining.
“We are also looking for groups, individuals or businesses who may be able to help construct the sensory garden or provide some of the materials.”
