Five year 12 students from Melksham Oak Community School put on the Project Red music event at Melksham Assembly Hall back in March.
The musicians decided to support Wiltshire Mind with the profits from the event, as they felt they wanted to raise awareness about mental health issues.
The event was part of their level 3 BTEC music course; however they decided to create a larger scale event. There were a variety of solos and ensembles ranging from Slayer to Chicago. Local blogger Charlotte Hall said, “It was such an entertaining evening, with everyone performing at their best.
“The night over all was a big success, with £200 being raised for Wiltshire Mind, and the assembly hall had every table filled up. It was an insane and fabulous evening.”
The performers would like to give a special thanks to Steven White and his business “Total Carpets and Flooring” for financially supporting the event. The performers were assisted by year 10 students undertaking level 2 BTEC. Also thanks to Leo and Alex for arranging the sound and lighting for the event, to Melksham Assembly Hall for being so hospitable and their wonderful music teachers Emma Cypher-Neal and Mike Thomas.
These five students are up and coming musicians for the future and are gigging on a regular basis in the local area. Something to watch out for is the school Summer Cabaret on Wednesday 13th of July at Melksham Oak – tickets available from the music department.
