THIS year’s Melksham Open Gardens event raised £1,460 for The Children’s Society, as keen gardeners showed off their handiwork to the community.
Visitors wandered around the gardens and enjoyed cream teas and donated to the Children’s Society that supports children threatened by abuse, neglect and exploitation.
“The event was a roaring success in spite of the previous day’s threat of wet weather,” said Lesley Windebank, one of the organisers. “It was warm, sunny for the most part and with a minimal amount of rain. Visitors came from far and near, offering many compliments about all the gardens and of course happily pausing for a cream tea and cake.
“The sum raised and the enjoyable afternoon would not have been possible without the willing assistance of many people. With enormous thanks and gratitude to you all, the gardeners themselves, the visitors dropping in on Melksham, the dozens of bakers, the amazing kitchen helpers and the excellent young team of waiters, pictured here indulging in a spot of quality control before their shift.”
