PLANS for a new pizza takeaway in the town centre have been given the green light to go-ahead, despite residents’ objections.
Pizza takeaway and delivery company, Papa John’s, has been given planning permission from Wiltshire Council to change the use of 12 Bank Street – formerly occupied by the Card Factory – from a shop to a hot food takeaway.
News of the application had attracted a mixed reaction from the community, with some residents welcoming the idea, and others lamenting the arrival of another takeaway shop in the town centre.
And on the Wiltshire Council planning website, 14 residents registered their objection to the application.
Melksham Town Council raised no objections to the application, but did request that it be made a condition of approval that delivery vehicles cannot park at the front of the store.
However, as there already double yellow lines outside the shop that do not allow parking, Wiltshire Council felt that this condition was not necessary and explained that the enforcement of the parking restrictions would be a matter for the police.
“Whilst this concern is understood, vehicles are not allowed to park there due to the double yellow lines,” said Wiltshire Council’s case officer.
