THE Shaw & Whitley Community Hub has been given £3,700 by Melksham Without Parish Council (MWPC) to help with the installation of the new community shop.
The community shop is based in Whitley, in the Pear Tree pub’s car park. Volunteers have been busy working on installing the shipping container-style building, which arrived in October. The group said they hope to open the facility in the early part of this year.
The funding will help cover additional costs related to the planning officer’s request for the shop to be moved to a different section of the car park than originally planned and other items.
Funding will also cover drainage, timber and decking, low pollution lighting, painting and flooring.
Hub chairman, Nathan Hall said, “We really appreciated the support of Melksham Without Parish Council and look forward to keeping them updated with our progress towards opening over the coming months.”
