MELKSHAM Without Parish councillor, Alan Baines, donated blood for the 150th time last week.
Cllr Baines, who has been with the parish council for over 40 years, is also celebrating 50 years of giving blood – his first donation was made in 1969 at a blood donation event held in the Assembly Hall.
Cllr Baines said, “I am very proud to be able to confirm that on Wednesday (15th May) at the Melksham blood donor session held at Spencer Social Club, I successfully donated my blood for the 150th time!
“My first donation was in the Assembly Hall in December 1969, when still at school and prior to taking A-levels, so overall this has been achieved just within 50 years, and I’m not stopping any time soon!
“I hope this will serve to illustrate to anyone considering blood donation for the first time that it is possible to help many, many patients needing blood and blood products, with no impact on your own health.
“Giving blood runs in the family, as my mum gave 83 times and my dad 87, they both having started at the outbreak of WWII.”
