A PLANNING application has been submitted for up to 270 homes including playing fields, car park and changing facilities on the old George Ward site.
The application was formally submitted by Persimmon homes last week. The development will see up to 270 houses built with space reserved for open public green spaces. The plans also include three playing fields being built with a club house and parking.
Melksham has seen an influx of planning applications for homes recently with over 1,000 potentially to be built across the town. This has led to criticism from some local residents. Shaw resident Mark Ashkowski said, “I would hope many will agree the George Ward development is poorly thought out, adding hundreds of homes on a flood plain to an area with limited local facilities, such as no local GP, an over-subscribed local school at Shaw, a main road (A365) which frequently floods and no effective secondary route into Melksham.
Melksham Without Parish Council and Melksham Town Council will be considering this on the same day at sererate meetings. Both take place on Monday 5th January at 7pm.
