A planning application has been submitted to build 205 houses on land north of the A365 Bath Road, near Melksham Oak Community School.
The application, lodged by Hannick Homes & Developments, proposes a mixed-use development of homes ranging from affordable to market properties, alongside an area for the future expansion of the adjacent school.
Plans also include public open space, landscaping and associated engineering works. The site is already allocated for housing within the Wiltshire Council Local Plan.
In its design and access statement, the developer said, “The homes within the proposals will be a variety of different types, which will allow for a diverse population and work towards meeting the housing needs in Melksham.”
Residents are being encouraged to share their views on the application via Wiltshire Council’s planning portal.
One resident who has submitted a comment said, “Yet again Melksham is subjected to more house building without any accompanying increase in infrastructure. This area is already congested with school access and access to Hornchurch Road.
“There are inadequate support facilities in the already dying town and the proposed access presents a danger to traffic and pedestrians. In my opinion this land would be better used for agriculture.”
Melksham Without Parish Council will discuss the application at its planning meeting on 22nd September.
