A planning application has been submitted to build 50 houses on land at Bowerhill Lane.
The application, by The Silverwood Partnership, proposes to develop agricultural land at Bowerhill Lane with 50 two-storey homes. The plans also include public open space, landscaping and access from the A365 Bath Road.
In its planning statement, the developer says the housing will be set back from the site’s northern boundary to preserve the setting of the nearby grade II listed Old Loves Farmhouse.
The site is not one of the areas allocated for development in the newly approved Joint Melksham Neighbourhood Plan, which was recently backed by a public referendum.
Vehicular access would be from the A365 Bath Road via a single priority junction. The developer adds, “The access has been designed with the full required standard of visibility in both directions, in consultation with the Highway Authority.”
Wiltshire Councillor for Bowerhill, Cllr Nick Holder, has asked that the application be ‘called in’ to Wiltshire Council’s planning committee if officers recommend approval. He cites concerns over visual impact, the relationship to surrounding properties, and potential highways/ environmental issues.
