An interactive play cafe in Melksham is celebrating its first six months after creating a popular space for children and parents to learn through play.
Mighty Minis Play Cafe, at Avonside, features themed role-play zones including a medical centre, theatre, construction area and salon.
It was created by three local mums – Sarah Hodges, Lisa Hargreaves and Ali Turrell – who saw a gap in Melksham for alternative facilities for children and parents.
Since opening in December, co-director Ali said there has been a real “community feel” about the space, with new children and parents continuing to visit alongside regulars who attend every week.
“Everyone has been really positive and really responsive,” said Ali. “There was clearly a need for it, which is lovely. It was something that we wanted to do for a long time.”
As a mark of the cafe’s success, it recently won Muddy Stilettos’ Best Children’s Business in Wiltshire Award.
“It is just wonderful,” said Ali. “We have only been open six months and we were absolutely ecstatic to win as a brand-new business. We were so thankful to everybody who voted for us and have enjoyed what we’ve created.
“It brings a really good name to Melksham too, we love Melksham. It is just a testament to the people who come to visit us and the good time they have when they come to visit Mighty Minis.”
Ali, Sarah and Lisa, who all met through Melksham Music and Drama, attended an awards ceremony earlier this month at The Glove Factory in Holt, where they were presented with their award.
