INCIDENTS of anti-social behaviour in Pembroke Road and surrounding areas have been reduced to “zero” say local police.
Speaking at last month’s annual town meeting, sgt James Twyford, from the Melksham Community Policing Team, said, “Through a mixture of early interventions to deal with young offenders and some tactically placed bail conditions on our most prolific offenders, that’s actually reduced the number of reports to zero over a two month period.”
Anti-social behaviour involving a “group of youths” in the Pembroke Road area has been an ongoing issue this year. In March, “frustrated” police had appealed to residents to report incidents of anti-social behaviour, after noticing residents were discussing online what should be done to combat the issue, rather than contact the police.
Youth anti-social behaviour in other public spaces in the Melksham area remains a priority for local police over the next 12 months.
Sgt Twyford highlighted King George V playing field, Hornchurch play area, Clackers Brook, Cranesbill park and Bowerhill pavilion as areas that will be monitored by police as they “tend to suffer the most”.
“We’ll be looking at identifying suspects, and looking at the key players involved,” said sgt Twyford.
