FIVE staff members at Melksham Blue Pool recently ran a marathon distance in the pool to raise over £200 for charity.
The fitness team at the leisure centre ran a combined 26.2 miles by completing 2,110 laps of a 20m section of the swimming pool. They collected around £230 in donations from members and friends, and took four hours and ten minutes to complete the challenge.
Fitness manager Abi Dempsey organised the fundraiser, which she completed alongside colleagues Shannon Holtom, Craig Ewles, Ryan Bodman and David Assis.
Abi said, “It was so hard, it felt like trying to run with somebody attached to your legs. We hadn’t done anything like this before and we didn’t do any training; I wanted it to be a challenge! It took longer than we expected because we underestimated how hard it would be.
“We raised about £230 for Heart UK so I’m really pleased with that – it’s much more than we managed to collect last year.”
