HILARY Stevens of Hilary’s Hair Salon in Atworth has hung up her scissors after 43 years.
Hilary’s Hair Salon has been a important part of Atworth’s community for a long time but after careful consideration, Hilary has decided to start her retirement.
Hilary said, “I always wanted to be a hairdresser, even as a child. I’ve always been a very practical person.
“I did my apprenticeship in Bath and then started doing a few ladies’ hair in my mum’s kitchen. I had two young children and wasn’t looking for anything full-time, but more and more people in the village asked me if I would do their hair and it snowballed. I outgrew my mum’s kitchen!
“I have really enjoyed the last 43 years but it is time to step back and start enjoying life. My partner also recently retired so now we have the time to do the things we’ve always wanted to do together. We’re looking forward to days out, weekends away and relaxing holidays.
“I have had a lot of loyal customers in the 43 years and many of them are now good friends. The village has changed over the years but it was lovely that my customer’s children grew up with mine.
“My daughter, Jo Soper, organised a lovely leaving tea party at the salon for me and so many people came along, which I really appreciate. It was great having everyone there chatting and reminiscing about old times. It was an emotional day, but it was lovely to see everyone.
“I really couldn’t have done the last 43 years without my loyal customers. Thank you for all your support.”
