A village community has raised funds for the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity following a fundraising quiz night organised in support of a local resident.
The event at The White Hart in Atworth was held after a woman from the village was seriously injured in a road traffic collision earlier this year.
Amanda Stonham was walk-
ing on a pavement in the village when she was struck by a car, breaking both legs and sustaining multiple injuries.
She was airlifted to the Royal United Hospital in Bath, where she spent four weeks and underwent three operations.
The quiz night was held to thank the air ambulance service and support its ongoing work.
Amanda has praised the response from the community following the incident.
She said, “When it happened, loads of people from the village came to help me immediately and I just want to thank everyone. I really severely broke my legs and I lost skin off my shin and had other wounds.”
Amanda, 66, who enjoyed running and keeping active prior to the collision, said the incident has ‘changed her life.’
“I probably won’t be able to run anymore and that will probably be off the cards for me now,” she said. “At the moment I am sort of disabled because I can’t do much. My husband, friends and neighbours have been excellent.
“I’ve got a long road of recovery but I am determined.”
