The Rainbow Day Centre, which has been a vital part of the Melksham community for over 40 years, is calling on local residents to help support its work by volunteering or joining as a trustee.
The centre provides a welcoming environment for elderly residents and some younger individuals with disabilities, offering them a chance to socialise, enjoy fun activities and share a freshly prepared two-course meal.
As the last remaining day centre of its kind in the area, Rainbow plays a crucial role in combating isolation for people who may otherwise find it difficult to leave their homes. The team at Rainbow is now seeking a new trustee and additional volunteers to help continue their important work.
Anyone interested is invited to attend the centre’s AGM on Monday, 14th October at 10:45 am at the Riverside Centre. This will be a chance to learn more about the centre’s operations, meet the current trustees, and explore how you can contribute.
“The centre provides a warm welcome to members, many of whom find it very difficult to get out of their homes, and provides an opportunity for them to meet up with others for a time of fellowship and fun activities, as well as partaking of a traditional two-course lunch cooked on the premises,” said Philip Toop, one of the trustees.
“Being a registered charity, we are required to have a Board of Trustees to oversee the running of the centre, and we currently have a vacancy and are looking for someone, who has a heart for the welfare of our senior citizens, to join us and give a view from the community of Melksham to ensure that we continue to meet their needs. The post is not too onerous, usually no more than four meetings per year. If you are such a person, we would be pleased for you to join us at the AGM when you will be able to hear more about the working of the Centre and meet some of the members. We also rely heavily on our small group of volunteers who assist the organiser in the running of the centre, doing some domestic duties but also helping members to get the best out of their attendance, and we are always pleased to welcome new volunteers to join the group. If you would like to know more about volunteering, why not join us at the Riverside Centre any Monday morning from 10.30am, for a coffee and a chat, or simply give Liz, our organiser, a call on 07563 301496.”
