A LOCAL girl recently had her full head of hair shaved off to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Kasie Paradise, 14, had her head shaved by Melksham mobile hairdresser Donna Burton, after deciding she wanted to raise money to support cancer patients.
Ex-Melksham resident Kasie now lives in Calne and attends the John Bentley School.
Kasie said, “I was inspired to have my head shaved because I really wanted to do something to help people suffering from cancer, especially children receiving chemotherapy.
“For them hair loss can be a long term side effect of the drugs, and I hoped to help make them feel like they’re not alone.
“I raised about £280 from sponsorship and donations on the night at the Pig and Whistle. I’m really happy because my target was only £100 – I didn’t expect to raise nearly £300!
“People have been really supportive; my mum and stepdad are really proud of me and friends and people have approached me at school to say what a good thing it is to have done.
“This was my first charity fundraiser but I would definitely like to do more in the future.”
Donna Burton, who is a hairdresser and friend of Kasie’s family said, “I think it’s amazing that a 14 year-old girl was so willing to have all her hair shaved off for such an amazing cause. I’m very proud of Kasie.
“I’d also like to thank Debbie and the staff at the Pig and Whistle for hosting the event, and to all those who contributed to the fundraising.”
