MELKSHAM Rugby Club has launched a £5,000 fund-raising campaign to help it survive during the Covid-19 crisis.
“The club has taken the decision to crowdfund as we lost out on a substantial amount of revenue at the end of the 19/20 season,” said Phil Stone.
“Income has been lost due to the inability to greet members and create income from players or spectators during match days, festivals or training … As it stands we have no idea when we will be out on the field again.
“All of this means we need additional funding to keep all of the teams going until we can start the new season, so we are calling on the local community to contribute if possible.
“Melksham Rfc is the heart of the Melksham Rugby community, providing playing facilities to hundreds of players ranging from 4 year olds right up to three senior men’s teams, a ladies’ and even a vets’ team!
“It is also community hub for hundreds of volunteers and supporters, providing a social environment for anyone to come and enjoy rugby and the atmosphere.
“However this club’s place is at risk due to the coronavirus.”
