A garden in the town centre designed for ‘quiet contemplation’ has re-opened.
The Friends Garden, located behind the former spiritualist church in King Street, is intended to be a community space that can be enjoyed and used by residents as a quiet place to come and sit.
The garden was the former burial ground for the Quaker Church and has been maintained by Melksham Bloomers, a voluntary group who raised funds to create ‘this beautiful quiet little oasis just near the town centre’.
“We have created this garden for the residents of Melksham to have somewhere quiet to come and sit and reflect, away from the hubble bubble of everyday life,’ said the group.
The garden was gifted by the trustees of the Spiritualist Church to Melksham Town Council for the sum of 1p in 2021 but has been closed since then over legal concerns.
Now it has re-opened with an official re-opening ceremony being held this Saturday, 6th August.
