LOCAL children will soon have the opportunity to visit a real life nativity scene as a stable in Shaw holds its one-day exhibition.
On Friday 11th December, a stable at 4 Bath Road will play host to ‘Follow the Star’ – a live nativity scene with real donkeys and actors in costume portraying the Christmas story.
Local woman Helen Roberts organises the event with help from Aloeric School and the Benefice of Atworth with Shaw and Whitley.
Helen said, “This event has proved very popular in the past and it’s a magical way to start the Christmas festivities; children will get the chance to pet the donkeys and listen to Christmas carols. We collect for charity but it is a free event put on just for the community. We started Follow the Star because the Christmas season means a lot to me, plus I own the stable so we have the means to do it.
“I think it’s popular because children take a lot away from the visit and everybody gets a special experience as Christmas approaches.”
The event will be open from 2pm to 4.30pm and there will be mince pies and mulled wine on offer, and squash for the children.
This is the fourth year Follow the Star has been held, and it will be collecting money for three causes: British Heart Foundation, HorseWorld, and for the oncology department at Bristol Children’s Hospital.
