The Melksham Gardeners’ Society had their infamous Plant Swap and Quiz on Tuesday 30th May.
Unfortunately, club chair, Barbara Cropp, was unable to attend (for only the second time in 9 years, so we let her off) so Bryan Colby took over as chief crowd controller and quiz master! Once again there were lots of plants available for swapping and quiz was intently followed with some fiendish questions as always.
There will not be a meeting in June as the club members will be visiting the NGS garden Beggars Knoll on two different dates instead (as advertised on club night) and club members will be going to Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in July.
Our next event will be on Sunday 10th September and is the Melksham Gardeners’ Society 9th Open Flower and Produce Show which will be held in The Melksham Assembly Hall. There are 84 classes for fruit, vegetables, floral arrangements, crafts, baking, preserves, photography and classes for younger exhibitors aged 3 – 15 years. To find out more on how to enter the classes, please pick up one of our booklets with all the information and entry forms at; Flowers in Focus, Tourist Information Centre in Canon Square, Melksham Town Council and Melksham Without Parish Council.
All are welcome to enter as many classes as they wish (only one entry per class though) at 25p per entry – you don’t have to be a member! There will also be various stand holders who will be showcasing/selling/demonstrating their wares so there should be something to tempt everyone.
The show will be open to the public from 2.00pm – 4.30pm, entry is £2 with a drink and a biscuit thrown in. Presentations of the cups and medals will be at the end of the show by our chairperson, followed by the Mayor presenting the Melksham in Bloom Awards.
If you are interested in having a stand (free), please contact as below.
For normal meetings, entry is £1 for members and £2.50 for guests. Annual membership is £10. For more information about the club or about the show, please contact – tel: 01225 702716 or email: melksham_gardeners@live.co.uk
