A PROPOSAL to have a publicly-accessible computer in the Town Hall has been dismissed as a ‘waste of time’.
It had been proposed that a computer be provided in the foyer of the Town Hall to allow the public to report issues on the MyWilts online app – a Wiltshire Council service for residents to report issues such as abandoned vehicles, fly tipping, dog mess and graffiti.
However, at a town council meeting last week, councillors raised concerns about the impact it could have on staff time and highlighted that there are other services already available in the town to help people get online.
And it was agreed that Town Hall staff continue to signpost anyone wanting access to a computer to the library.
“I’m not in favour of it,” said cllr Pat Aves, “I think it’s not necessary. People have computers at home, and they can go to the library.
“And not only that, anybody that comes into the Town Hall that doesn’t know how to use a computer will take up staff time.”
