THE countdown has begun for the town’s carnival, which is set to return after being cancelled last year, and organisers are promising a procession to remember.
The procession will parade through the town on Saturday 13th July, following a new route that will begin at King Street Car Park at 6pm.
“This year the Melksham carnival procession has something for everyone,” said Beth Dark, who is a member of the carnival committee. “We have had to close applications because we have never had so many entries. We have our beautiful and very community-spirited Melksham Carnival Royalty, our mayor, town crier as well as family favourites.
“Be prepared to sing, dance, laugh and be amazed by this year’s procession entries. We can’t say any more than that, because we want the procession to have some surprises! It will be loud, and it will be fabulous!”
Volunteers are still ‘desperately’ needed to help at the event. “We rely on help from the people of the town, so if you are available, we desperately need bucket carriers and marshals. Absolutely no training is needed, but a heart filled with community spirit is always an advantage,” says Beth.
“Traditionally, the carnival would start and end at the Avon car park. However, following the closure of the site, this year’s carnival will start and end at King Street Car Park and proceed in a loop towards Ruskin Avenue, Coronation Road, Warwick Crescent, Kenilworth Gardens, Waverley Gardens, then back up along Semington Road towards King Street Car Park. All roads will be closed between 5.30pm and 8pm.
“We have shared the new route on our Facebook page. We suggest following our Melksham Carnival Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.”
