A record 35-teams lined up in glorious sunshine at Doric Park in Trowbridge for the fifth running of the Avon Valley Relay.
This event sees teams of four runners cover a 17 mile course that takes them from Hilperton to Semington onto Bradford on Avon and Dundas Aqueduct before finishing at the Rugby Club in Winsley.
With teams representing Frome Running Club, Devizes Running Club, Westbury Running Group, Bitton Road Runners, Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds, Team Bath AC, Hot Chilli Tri and Frome Triathlon Club, it was the host club, Avon Valley Runners who took a clean sweep of the prizes.
After taking the lead on the third leg, it was the AVR Men’s team of Mark Harrison, Rich Ayling, Mike Rose and Tim Lowrie who were first across the finish line in a time of one hour and 42 minutes with the AVR Mixed team of Fiona Price (who was later called upon to rescue a man-overboard on the canal at Dundas Aqueduct), Ruth Barnes, Dominic Beddis and Mike Towler in second and Bitton Road Runners third.
In 9th place, the AVR Ladies team claimed their trophy with a team of Jackie Rockliffe, Jen Ford, Julia Green and Diane Hier.
