Melksham will commemorate the fallen and honour the sacrifice of those who served in our armed forces on Remembrance Sunday 10th November, with a church service, a parade of ex-servicemen and women, serving members of HM Forces, local groups and a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial.
The church service at St Michael’s Church will begin at 10am and last for approximately 45 minutes.
The parade will set off from King Street car park at 10.45am and proceed to the War Memorial in Canon Square, where a service will be held, including a two minutes’ silence at 11am and the laying of wreaths.
All ex-servicemen and women, as well as serving members of HM Forces, are welcome to participate in the parade. Please report to the parade commander at 10am in the King Street car park.
“The nation will come together to remember the fallen and injured of all conflicts, as well as all those affected by war,” said Melksham Town Council, who organise the event alongside the Melksham branch of the Royal British Legion.
Light refreshments will be available for parade members in the Melksham Assembly Hall from 11.45am.
Please note that road closures will be in effect for limited periods between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
For Remembrance Day itself, on Monday 11th November, the Royal British Legion will observe a two minutes’ silence at 11am at the War Memorial in Canon Square.
