At the June Meeting of Atworth WI Lesley Adam our delegate at the National Federation AGM in Liverpool, gave a very interesting report of the proceedings.
The two Resolutions put before the Meeting, Alleviating Loneliness and Plastic Soup: keep microplastic fibres out of our oceans were both accepted.
Our Speaker at the Meeting was Paula Watts, an Independent Consultant for Neal’s Yard Remedies. She gave us a talk on the history of the brand from its beginnings in Covent Garden and details of the organic materials that are used. We had a chance to sample some of the organic beauty products and had a practical demonstration of hand massage.
The competition for an interesting commemorative mug was won by Maureen Cooke. Other members reported on visits to Kings Cross and ‘Below Stairs’ at Longleat.
At the beginning of June, 18 members visited Fussels Fine Foods at Rode. We were given an excellent presentation about the growing and harvesting of Rapeseed and then the production of Rapeseed Oil and the many products made by the company. This was followed by a cookery demonstration, using Fussels products of course which we then had for lunch. We were able to buy Fussels Fine Foods products from the shop on site . It was a shocking day weather wise but we all agreed that we had an enjoyable and informative visit.
Our next Meeting is on Monday July 17th at Atworth Village Hall, when Fiona Turnbull will introduce us to Creative Photography.
