A RESIDENT has raised concerns about the build-up of litter along the riverside walk leading to Sainsbury’s and the pathway from the St. Michael’s Cemetery.
The resident said, “The once picturesque walk in Melksham is now unhygienic and unpleasant and is very apparent after leaving St Michael’s Cemetery walking towards Sainsbury’s. I have watched the neglected bins and litter blowing into the river for weeks and can no longer stay silent.”
A rubbish build-up between Sainsbury’s petrol station and Bath Road has also been noticed in recent weeks.
A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said, “We would encourage customers to report any concerns in store so that our colleagues can resolve as swiftly as possible.”
A group of volunteers from the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust clears up litter and maintains The Conigre Mead Nature Reserve, behind Sainsbury’s and St. Michael’s cemetery. A spokesperson from the trust said, “The Conigre Mead volunteer group carry out work mornings on the third Saturday of each month, which always includes a litter pick, as well as other important work to maintain the nature reserve for the benefit of wildlife and people.
“The group last cleared rubbish around the nature reserve on 18th February. We were aware of a particularly bad build-up of rubbish after the flooding which affected the reserve area at the end of January, and this was subsequently cleared.”
