Local people are being asked to share their views on King George V Playing Field to help shape its future.
Melksham Town Council is launching a consultation on 30th March, which will run for two weeks, to gather feedback and ensure the park meets the needs of families, young people, sports users, dog walkers and visitors.
The consultation follows previous public sessions held at the park, and the council is now seeking further input from residents to build on the feedback already gathered.
Councillor Adrienne Westbrook said, “King George V Playing Field, is an area that brings the whole community together. This consultation is a real opportunity for residents to influence how the park develops in the years ahead. Whether you use the park every day or only occasionally, your experiences and ideas are incredibly valuable. We want to ensure the park continues to be a vibrant, accessible, and much-loved space for everyone.”
Melksham Town Council said that in a previous survey, 22% of respondents would prioritise King George V Park over other parks in Melksham. A further 18%, the second highest figure, said it is the closest park to their home, while 66% said it is the park they use most frequently.

I had an idea last year that unfortunately I’ve not had time to follow up- but I’d like to see more places for teenagers to safely meet out of the weather in the park. My idea was to erect 6-8 picnic tables with roofs (like the isolation pod things that pubs had during Covid) dotted around king George park? I thought we could have go funded it. It would have been nice to have had lights inside and charging ports to maybe attach phones to speakers (with limits). We were discussing whether they should be locked 11pm until 11am?
My daughter was 16 last year we live in village outside Melksham and it was hard for her to meet friends in Melksham without sitting outside in kids parks…and the amount of time she got soaked because of the weather! Also Evie’s cafe were lovely to her and her friends and gave free food/ water on occasion 🙂 I thought it would be lovely to speak to Craig from Evie’s cafe- which I did and he was keen to support this idea and he could offer student price tuck shop etc?
