Plans for 88 houses in Holt have been approved, following revisions to the original design after strong local objections.
Outline permission for the Great Parks site had already been secured, but the original design and layout for 90 homes was refused by the Wiltshire Council’s Western Area Planning Committee in February.
A revised application was submitted by Bewley Homes following collaboration with Holt Parish Council and Wiltshire Council planning and design officers, and full permission was granted at the committee’s meeting earlier this month.
The scheme includes public open space, a children’s play area, a community orchard and developer contributions to support local facilities.
Chair of Holt Parish Council, Steve Siddall, said, “This scheme has benefited from sustained and genuine dialogue between the parish council, Bewley Homes and Wiltshire Council planning and design officers.
“Over multiple meetings the parish council has pressed for improvements across layout, materials, landscaping, housing mix and character. Bewley Homes has responded positively and its architect has drawn from the Holt Village Character Statement to produce a solution more in keeping with the existing built environment.”
The revised plan reduces the number of homes from 90 to 88, redesigns apartment blocks as almshouse-style dwellings, and improves the Melksham Road frontage, green space, and landscaping.
Managing Director of Bewley Homes, Andrew Brooks, said, “Our design approach has sought to capture the essence of Holt’s character while providing much-needed new homes, biodiversity enhancements, and inclusive community spaces. We’re proud of the scheme that has come forward and look forward to delivering these new homes as part of the village’s future.”
