MELKSHAM Rotary Club gave out over £3,000 to local groups, and charities at a special cheque presentation evening earlier this month.
Fifteen different local causes received a total of £3,979 from the club. Representatives received the money from members of the Rotary Club at the Art House Cafe in the Market Place, which is run by the Rotary Club.
The biggest sums donated were £500 to Read Easy Melksham, and £500 to Steeple Ashton Guides & Seniors to help towards the construction of their new storage unit.
The other recipients were Hope Debt Advice, Shaw & Whitley Friendship Club, Melksham 60+ Club, PHAB, Melksham Amateur Swimming Club, Wiltshire Sight, Bowerhill Resident Action Group, AFC Melksham Disabled Football teams, West Wilts Child Contact, Anybody Can Cook, Melksham Scout Group, Young Melksham and Konika Newmark who is raising money to buy a specially adapted bike for her disabled son.
Melksham Rotary Club secretary, Sarah Hiscocks said, “We are able to donate this money because our wonderful volunteers give up their time to work in the café.”
On top of the £3,979 handed out at the presentation evening, Melksham Rotary Club has announced that special events hosted by the club, including the successful gin tasting evening in February, have enabled the club to donate a further £4,665 to charity.
Charities and groups that have benefited include Macmillan Cancer Support, Julia’s House, Rotary charities and Melksham Christmas Lights.
