RUH charity launches a new distance at the Walk of Life 2025

The charity for the Royal United Hospital in Bath, RUHX, is launching a new distance at its annual Walk of Life fundraising event.

In addition to the 26.2-mile (marathon) distance and 10-mile distance, the charity will also now offer a 16-mile distance at the event in May.

The Walk of Life 2024 saw over 300 people take part and raised over £60,000. RUHX hopes the new distance will encourage more of the local community to get involved by choosing a challenge that suits them.

The marathon route follows the Kennet & Avon canal between Bishops Cannings and Bath, with the 16-mile distance following the morning section and finishing at Bradford-on-Avon, where the 10-mile distance begins.

Walkers are provided with snacks, water and lunch along the way to help them complete their challenge.

One of the participants from the 2024 event said, “Such a fantastic cause and so much support along the way made this challenge so much easier to complete. We will be signing up for next year ASAP!”

Since it began in 2005, the walk has raised over £800,000 for Royal United Hospitals Bath, helping to fund the new Dyson Cancer Centre as well as innovative new technologies and equipment for the hospital, staff wellbeing programmes and research.

By taking part, people will be giving back to their local hospital for care received by them and their loved ones, helping to make healthcare extraordinary for everyone in Bath, Wiltshire and beyond.

Tickets start from £8. Register for your Walk of Life place on the RUHX website:  https://ruhx.org.uk/events/walk-of-life/
