Schools across Melksham have been closed for a second consecutive day as temperatures continue to soar during the ongoing heatwave.
Local schools were closed yesterday and today, Thursday 25th June, following a Met Office red extreme heat warning.
In a letter to parents, the White Horse Federation, which runs the majority of Melksham primary schools and Melksham Oak Community School, said, “This has not been an easy decision. We know that school closures create disruption for families and we have taken this step only after careful consideration of the available guidance, the conditions in our school buildings and the likely impact on pupils and staff.
“Given the severity of the red warning and the sustained high temperatures forecast, we do not believe that we can safely maintain normal school operations on these two days.”
Most schools are expected to reopen on Friday as cooler conditions are forecast.
