FORMER Melksham Person of the Year Anne Cranham has been awarded the Chief Scout’s Silver Acorn Award in recognition of her 39 years with the Scout Association.
Anne was presented with the award at a special presentation by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sarah Troughton. About receiving the award Anne said, “I was over the moon.”
Chris Broom, District Commissioner said, “Anne has always supported Group, District and County fully and her achievements over the past 39 years are a testament to her relentless dedication, commitment and outstanding service to Scouting.”
For receiving the Silver Acorn Award, Anne was invited to a day of celebration and achievement at Windsor Castle.
Anne said, “It was a dream come true to go into St George’s Chapel on St George’s Day to take part in the Mattins’ Service. It’s something every Scout dreams about, being able to take part in.
“It was an honour to be present there with all the other Scout recipients of this year’s awards, who had come from all over the country. Bear Grylls, our Chief Scout was in attendance and I sat just a few feet away from him.”
Anne has been a member of The Scout Association for 39 years and has worked within the Wiltshire West District for all of this time. She initially became involved as Group Chairman with Broughton Gifford & Holt Scout Group when her son became a Cub Scout and has overseen and guided the group during this time, which has gone from strength to strength. Anne has worked tirelessly with fundraising to ensure that the group headquarters is fully equipped with a full range of camping equipment.
There appears to be no end in sight for Anne and her time with the Scout Association with several sleepovers in the coming months organised for the group and Anne will be carrying out her 39th AGM meeting in May.
She said, “I still enjoy watching the children enjoy themselves and giving them new opportunities and experiences. It’s lovely to see them flourish.”
