SEEND held a milestone 60th village fete on Saturday 10th August, which was celebrated by the local community.
This year’s celebrations was opened by the fete prince, William Twiner-Griggs; the fete princess, Jocelyne Brown; and the fete court, Sebastian Plumb.
The day was filled with entertainment, live music, food and stalls for all the family. The event was compered by local radio station, Fantasy Radio and it welcomed, fresh from Glastonbury, ‘Great Big Feet’ to keep the music going.
Alongside the fete, The Village Flower Show also celebrated a birthday, 70 years, and was located in the community centre.
It was also the official opening of the village’s new play park which was installed a few months ago.
The play area was funded by Suez Communities Trust, The Seend Lye Recreation Field charity, the family and friends of the late Joyce Brand and Seend Fawlty Players.
The Lye Field committee said, “Our sincere thanks also go to the many volunteers who, unstintingly, gave their time, energy and encouragement to the project. Both our community our friends, and friends of our community, such as the Devon Devils, gave over 210 volunteer hours to the project across the winter, spring and early summer.”
The main sponsor for this year’s event was Altfield – who have been supporters of the village for many years. Other sponsors were local businesses including: New Leaf Landscaping, Devizes Steel, Cleeve House, Bluemay, Windsmere, Post and Provisions, Feuersenger Design, R&GS Hickman and Thirdberg production.
The committee continued, “Special thanks to Natasha Mason and Steve Dewar for joining the committee fun, the WI for creating our lovely bunting and of course to all the volunteers that keep coming out on the day every year and make this fete such a huge success. We can’t do it without you. Your support has made this year’s fete possible. Thank you for investing into your community.”
Next year’s fete has been scheduled for Saturday 8th August 2020.
